My Homeserver Changes in The Last Year

It's been another year since my last Homeserver setup article:
My HomeServer Setup in 2024 (Hardware and Software)

During that time, there have been some configuration changes.

None were urgent or urgent changes, but they did raise the overall quality of service.

This is especially important considering that the server is already running HomeAssistant, the whole-house automation service, now live. If it (the server) is not running, then none of the automations will work, such as:
- Heating control
- Lighting
- Controls for heating, heating lights, doorbells (I turn them off at night)
- Motion alarm (if we are not home and one of the motion sensors detects motion, it sends a notification to the phone)

It's also important to keep the server running, because this is where my Crypto Trader script runs, which I've been developing for 5 years (since covid19's outbreak), and it seems that it's finally generating steady revenue :)

UPS

Stable availability requires an uninterruptible power supply. I managed to get a UPS that was sold as faulty, namely an APC BE700G-GR, at a very good price. Its only fault was that I had to replace the battery (I got a new one for $20).
Since there are not too many variations in this size rack cabinet, and I won't need a larger one just yet, I placed it as follows:

Switch from HDD to SSD

I have replaced my HDD, which has been in almost continuous operation for 8 years, with a new DAHUA C800A with a 5 year warranty. It is feared that after all these years of continuous use (although it is still in 100/100 condition), the lifetime will either rapidly decrease or simply die out overnight. Better to replace it and make money out of it before that happens.

The cloning was done with an ACT AC1504 dual HDD dock, without a computer (after connecting the HDD and SSD, you have to press the Clone button twice - watch which one is the source and which one is the target). The process took 3 hours, but it was worth it.
I removed the HDD, then installed the SSD and everything works as before. No configuration was needed on the Linux side.

And the speed now maximises the capability of the gigabit switch over the network when I'm copying something to or from the server.

Not too many hardware changes have been needed in the last 1 year, fortunately everything works as it should.

The biggest change in the software is the HomeAssistant, which I'll write about later if you want (comment below the article if you're interested).
